Ahoy

Factions compete for Fame on the high seas in a lightly asymmetrical conflict game for two to four players. Players take distinct roles—imperial enforcers of the Bluefin Squadron, reclamation-minded members of the Mollusk Union, or, in larger games, independent Smugglers—each with different objectives and abilities. Gameplay centers on exploring and building a modular map from double-layer region tiles, navigating currents, uncovering treasure troves, and contesting wrecks and sea lanes. Turns emphasize maneuvering, combat, and resource delivery as players pursue Fame and control. The rules aim for fast play and accessible learning while supporting interactive, strategic choices.

Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

How many dice do I have to place on my turn, and what if I can't place them?

You must place 2 action dice on your turn (the Bluefin Squadron places only 1 on their final turn of the round); if you cannot place a die, set it aside and you may not place it that round (it stays unplaced). (page 8)

Can I put a die on a slot that's already damaged or already has a die?

No — the die slot must be empty and cannot be occupied by a die or a damage token, so you cannot place a die on a damaged or already-occupied slot. (pages 10, 15)

If I move into a space with multiple enemy figures, do I have to fight them all?

If either you or an enemy there has loaded Cannons, you must battle every enemy figure in that space one at a time; you (the attacker) choose the order of defenders and the attacker wins ties. (page 13)

Can I move across sandbars or use Tailwind to jump over them?

You cannot move across Sandbars during normal adjacent movement because they block movement, but Tailwind lets you move directly to any space with a matching printed die and ignores Sandbars and everything between. (pages 11, 10)

Can I spend gold to change a die to any number when I place it?

Yes — when placing a die you may spend gold to increase or decrease its value by one per gold spent, but dice cannot go above 6 or below 1 (no wrapping), and final die values are public. (pages 10, 22)
