Arkham Horror (Third Edition)

Set in 1926 Arkham, investigators confront rising eldritch threats as occult rituals and otherworldly creatures spill into the city. Players cooperatively control investigators who move between locations, gather clues, acquire items and allies, and resolve encounters to thwart ritual progress and combat monsters. The game mixes scenario-driven objectives with skill tests and resource management as players balance investigating, fighting, and preserving sanity and health. Sessions scale for one to six players and resolve when investigators either stop the looming Ancient One or are overwhelmed by its influence.

Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

How many actions do I get on my turn, and can I do the same action twice?

You can perform up to two actions during your action-phase turn, but you cannot perform the same action more than once per round. (Rulebook, p. 10; Rules Reference, p. 3.)

What counts as a success on a test?

Each die showing a 5 or 6 is one success; at least one success means you pass. You roll at least one die even if modifiers reduce your skill to zero. (Rulebook, p. 9.)

If I move into a space with a monster, do I keep moving?

No. A monster in the space engages you, and your movement ends; an exhausted monster does not engage you. (Rulebook, p. 10; Rules Reference, p. 16.)

What can I do while a monster is engaged with me?

Normally, you can only attack, evade, focus, or take an action specifically allowed while engaged; you also skip your encounter that round. Engaged monsters attack you during the monster phase. (Rules Reference, pp. 4, 11.)

Do I automatically get clues when I enter a neighborhood with a clue token?

No. Resolve encounters in that neighborhood to find the event card that may let you gain its clue; then use the research action to place gained clues on the scenario sheet. You can also spend a clue to reroll one die during a test. (Rulebook, pp. 8, 13.)

Do we put mythos tokens back after drawing them?

No. Each investigator draws and resolves two tokens, and the drawn tokens stay out of the cup until it is empty; then all tokens are returned before the next draw. (Rulebook, p. 14; Rules Reference, p. 4.)
