Battle Line: Medieval

Command forces across nine battlefields in a two-player card duel set in medieval warfare. Players draft and play cards to form formations at each of nine flags, trying to create combinations stronger than the opponent’s. Victory comes from winning five flags or three adjacent flags; plays include numbered unit cards and special tactic wildcards that provide flexibility and surprise. Turns involve hand management, bluffing, and tactical placement as players decide when to commit strong units, deploy powerful leaders, or use tactics to disrupt enemy plans. Typical playtime is about 30 minutes.

This is exactly what Battle Line needed for me to become truly great. The original version looked really bland, so I often did not feel like playing it for that reason. I didn't care for the cartoonish artwork in Schotten Totten either, so this new version just hit the sweet spot for me. The cards now look gorgeous, and while the suits are indeed a bit harder to differentiate, I got used to them after a few plays. The new variant with the terrain cards is also a nice addition, although I might still prefer the tactic cards.
