Set in late 8th-century Britain, players lead one of the four major Anglo-Saxon kingdoms as Viking raids, shifting religions, and inter-kingdom diplomacy shape the landscape. Gameplay centers on asymmetric kingdom management: collect taxes, develop economy and technology, build special buildings, and mobilize armies to contest key areas on the map. Players use diplomacy and limited seasonal actions to form alliances, pursue secret objectives, and wage battles with miniature-led forces. Play proceeds over up to twelve seasons, each allowing two of four possible actions, forcing tight choices between expansion, consolidation, and military or diplomatic strategies to claim supremacy.
