Monumental

Players develop a civilization by building and activating a 3x3 city grid of cards that produce resources like Science, Military, Production, Culture and Gold. Each turn players choose a subset of city cards to activate, forcing tradeoffs about which resources to gather. Resources buy cards from a shared pool—upgraded buildings, technologies and wonders—that improve a player’s deck and enable stronger combos as eras advance and higher-tier cards appear. A central modular board represents provinces and armies; players can conquer barbarian-held provinces to gain resources and victory points. The game ends after the era progression and scoring awards the player with the most impressive civilization.

Pros: -Very pretty game -High quality components Cons: -Extreme downtime, even with changing the tokens out with a triple dial. -The player area takes too much space for what it does. The 3x3 grid is nice, but it takes so much space when you have to accommodate for the game map as well. -The game really need a player aid for each player. -Very low interaction between players except if you play 3-4 players (who would want that with this amount of downtime) while also using a lot on military to be able to be aggressive, but this is decided on your deck. As a euro with heavy emphasis on card play with a map I much prefer Concordia, Pax Pamir, Brass Birmingham, Eclipse, Endeavor, Nations, Lisboa and others, even though I have sold most of these games too for not being good enough.
