Players act as environmental advisers balancing resource exploitation with species conservation. They collect and sell resources from Plains, Oceans, Mountains, Forests, and constructed cities or power plants, then use the proceeds to buy and conserve land. Exploiting land generates waste and can threaten endangered species, while conservation actions include relocating species, building habitat bridges, recycling waste, and improving land efficiency. Each turn, players approve resource projects, acquire and develop land, trade resources, and perform conservation actions before recycling waste and paying dues. The randomized map, species locations, and costs create a different landscape each game. Play ends when 15 species are saved or 6 become extinct; the adviser responsible for the strongest conservation outcome wins.
