Evolution: Random Mutations

Players draft and play cards to create and modify animal species, placing three starting animals and keeping the rest as a draw pile. Each turn a card can be played as a new animal, added to an existing animal stack to increase its population, or flipped under a stack to grant a trait (which can be beneficial or harmful). A variable climate phase uses colored tokens to represent food, refugees, and parasites; players assign food and refugees to their own animals and place parasite tokens on opponents’ animals or on predators that attack. Unfed animals and those harmed by parasites or predators go extinct and are removed. New cards replenish players each round until the deck is exhausted, then scoring awards points for surviving animals, traits, and combination bonuses.
