Evolution: The Origin of Species

2010 · Card Game

Evolution: The Origin of Species

Players create and modify animals by playing cards either as new creatures (face-down) or as traits added to existing animals (face-up). Each round players develop their tableau, add traits like Carnivorous, Camouflage, Swimming or Fat Tissue, and choose which trait to reveal when a dual-trait card is played. A variable food supply is determined each round, and players take turns feeding animals by taking food cubes or attacking with carnivores. Traits confer special abilities during feeding or defense; unfed animals go extinct and are discarded with their traits. Hands are refilled based on surviving animals, and the game ends after the deck is exhausted when players score for live animals, traits, and certain bonuses.
