Firefight: Modern U.S. and Soviet Small Unit Tactics
Tactical simulation of late-1970s US and Soviet small-unit mechanized combat. Units represent individual vehicles or four-man fireteams on two large geomorphic maps, with a 50 m hex scale and 40-second game turns. Play alternates discrete Fire and Movement phases within each turn, followed by an Indirect Fire phase for off-map artillery and mortars. Combat uses weapon- and target-specific firepower ratings looked up on tables and resolved via Combat Results Tables; terrain effects are integrated into the CRTs to reflect cover from woods, buildings, and hull-down positions. Rules are presented in graduated stages that introduce core mechanics, expanded tactical effects, and advanced weapon systems. Components include 400 counters, two maps, a rules booklet and reference data.
