G.I. JOE Deck-Building Game

Players cooperate as elite military teams working to thwart an enemy organization’s plots. Each player begins with a weak starter deck and improves it by recruiting specialists, acquiring equipment, and deploying vehicles to build more effective hands. Missions present escalating threats that the team must resolve together through card play, resource management, and coordinated tactics. The core set provides the components needed to play standalone cooperative campaigns, with modular elements that support additional characters and scenarios.

Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

Can one Joe attempt more than one Mission in the same turn?

No — Joes can only be assigned to one Mission per turn; if you want to attempt additional Missions, leave those Joes in your hand until after the current Mission finishes (they still provide Recruit afterward). (see page 14).

When do we roll Skill dice and can we play mission‑symbol cards after the roll?

You roll the team’s total Skill dice after assigning Joes and resolving Complications, and any player with at least one Joe on the Mission may then play mission‑symbol Utility/Gear/Basic cards even after the dice have been rolled. (see page 11).

Do Transports get discarded after a Mission, and what’s special about the VAMP?

Most Transports are discarded to the starter’s discard pile after a Mission and later reshuffled into that player’s deck, but the VAMP always returns to the Hangar immediately and can be reused; recruited Transports go directly to the Hangar. (see pages 9 and 14).

When I Recruit a card from the line‑up, where does it go?

Recruited cards are placed on top of your deck (not into your discard pile), and you may Recruit multiple cards if you can pay for them; Transports recruited go straight to the Hangar. (see page 15).

Can I play cards from my discard pile or only from my hand?

You play cards from your hand during your Action Phase (place played cards face‑up into your play area); cards in your discard pile are not playable until shuffled into your deck and drawn. (see page 8).

How and when does the Threat Meter move and when are Complications drawn?

At the end of each round resolve End of Round effects (which always moves the Threat Marker up 1 space) and some Threat Meter spaces or Story Mission icons also instruct you to draw/resolve Complications as indicated; Story Missions also place face‑down Complications when put into play that are revealed when the Mission is attempted. (see pages 7 and 16).
