Jetpack Joyride

2019 · Puzzle

Jetpack Joyride

Players race through a laboratory in real time, building a path with tiles to fly a stolen jetpack across three rounds. Each round, players draw four lab objective cards, then simultaneously grab tiles from a shared pool and lay them to trace a route through their personal lab board. Points come from completing mission cards and collecting coins, and the first player to reach the end of their lab ends the round. Scores are recorded, then players draft a permanent gadget from a shared river starting with the lowest scorer. After three rounds, the highest total score wins.

Great, simple puzzler / race game. Component quality is ok, although the boards are somewhat thin. Then again, that would have increased the box which is now nicely small. Cool addition is the solo puzzle book.

Fun real-time polyominos game. PROS - It is fun. Many different missions and gadgets mean lots of interactions to keep games fresh. - Simple enough to play it with non-gamers. It has handicaps included to help evening the field and helps weaker players by letting them select gadgets first. - If you know the app, the flavor is on point. The mechanics capture the game feeling pretty nicely. CONS - Few different polyomino shapes, which sometimes feels limiting.
