2011 · Card Game
Scoundrel
A solo roguelike played with a modified standard deck of cards. Red jokers, red face cards, and red aces are removed; remaining spades and clubs act as monsters, diamonds as weapons, and hearts as health potions, each carrying numeric values. Dungeon rooms are formed by laying out cards in groups of four. The player resolves three of the four cards in each room while the fourth seeds the next room; rooms may be deferred but not twice consecutively. Combat uses equipped weapons that can defeat a sequence of monsters only if each successive monster is lower in value than the previous one, or the player can fight barehanded at the cost of losing life equal to the monster’s value. Potions restore life up to the 20-point maximum, with consecutive potions diminishing effect. The run ends when life reaches zero or all rooms are cleared.
