Bastille

2018 · Aklın Çağı

Bastille

Players lead rival revolutionary factions on the eve of the French Revolution, jockeying for resources, leaders, weapons and influence across Paris. Each round, players place three influence tiles one at a time into seven buildings, with only three slots per building; buildings are then resolved in order of influence, and the top placer receives a bonus. A rotating mission card awards end-of-round points for collected items or symbols. After rounds four and eight, players score leaders, progress on the Bastille track, and any secret missions. The player with the most points after eight rounds wins.

Very nice lighter game. Each player gets three workers represented by shields with numbers printed on them. You place your workers into the various spaces and once all workers are placed you resolve the board, where the player with the highest sum printed on their workers gets to take the action first with ties broken towards who placed into the area first. Of course, there's a space that lets you improve the number on one of your workers by 1. There's a bit of luck involved in the game. There's a mechanism where you can throw your cubes into a bag, and then at the halfway and endgame scorings, 5 cubes get randomly pulled out and those players get strong rewards. I thought this piece would really bother me, but at the end of the game each cube in the bag is 1vp, so even losing out on the rewards doesn't make the action useless. Would play again. I don't know how different one session to another would feel though since the game doesn't have distinct paths to follow or things to try. Everyone is focused on getting the same things done each game, and the key decision points come from which worker to upgrade when, and what order you do things in. :star: Art, Iconography and components functional :star: Clever or interesting mechanisms :star: Reasonably low downtime between turns with mildly AP players :nostar: Multiple plays stay interesting :star: Low or mitigatable luck elements :star::star::star::nostar::nostar: Raw enjoyment
