Carcassonne: The Discovery

Players explore a newly discovered region of meadows, mountains and seas by placing landscape tiles that must match adjacent terrain. On each turn a tile is placed and the active player may deploy a limited pool of followers as robbers in mountains, seafarers on seas or explorers in meadows. Followers score when removed rather than automatically on closure: points depend on the size and type of the region, with closed regions and expanded mountains yielding higher value. Tile placement and the timing of follower removal drive strategic decisions about when to cash in territory and when to let regions grow.

I got this after being told it was a good introduction to Carcassonne. Although that seems to be very accurate, I think I could have handled jumping straight into normal Carcassonne, as could most people. I think this simplified version is unnecessary and I regret not getting the normal version which isn't much more complicated and has the option for expansions.

Played a lot in my youth time, was my first Carcassonne game. I loved it then, now it's only that simple Carcassonne version. I like to play the base game more or other spin-offs

Not as good as the original - it still is a breath of fresh air with the clever scoring system. Simple and easy - yet with a good bit of strategy. See my review for more details...
