Yspahan

Players act as merchants trading with a booming Persian city, placing goods in shops, sending caravans into the desert, and constructing buildings to improve their operations. Each round, players draft an action order but resolve actions based on dice drawn from a tower: the dice determine which actions are available and their strength. Players use those actions to stock souks, advance their camels along the caravan track, build structures that modify future turns, and acquire action cards for extra options. Points are scored periodically for shop control and caravan progress, and the game ends after three scoring rounds to determine which merchant profited most.

The theme is presented very ugly. And there is too much luck involved with this dice rolling. Seriously, if you don't get camels in the first 'week' your fucked up. Because then you can't build buildings and profit for the rest of the game. For me that game is broken. A good medium board game.

This is a short dice drafting game where each round dice are rolled, and placed on a chart in groups of the same value. In turn order, each player selects one value of dice, takes all of them, and resolves an action depending on the box it was in and the quantity of dice. Generally, you are placing cubes into regions matching the box, although there are a few other things you can do such as draw bonus cards or get camels for the camel track. The different districts score at the end of each of the three ages, then they reset for the next age. It's a fine game, although it feels a little dated in that dice drafting and dice as workers has come so far since this game's original release. It's also subject to a little more luck with the rolls than I would normally prefer. Would play it again, but I wouldn't seek it out necessarily. :star: Art, Iconography and components functional :star: Clever or interesting mechanisms :star: Reasonably low downtime between turns with mildly AP players :nostar: Multiple plays stay interesting :nostar: Low or mitigatable luck elements :star::star::star::nostar::nostar: Raw enjoyment
