Shadows in the Forest

Players explore an ancient forest in near-darkness while one player moves a lantern to search for hidden figures. The lantern illuminates the board and the trees, creating real shadows; the light player tries to catch and immobilize the shadowed figures by shining the beam on them. The rest of the players control small figures that must move quietly through the shadows to avoid the light and to free any captured allies. Play emphasizes stealth, spatial awareness, and cooperation as the shadow players coordinate movements and use tree cover while the light player probes the board.

This is a pretty game where one player pushes a lit candle down winding paths and the other players play dwarves trying to unite under one tree without getting frozen in place by the beams of light from the candle. If the candle can catch and freeze all the dwarves at once it wins, but I'm not sure how often that can happen. Everyone liked the look of the game, but there just wasn't enough to it. ★ Art and components ☆ Innovative mechanics ★ Handles 5 or more players ☆ Good with min or max players ★ Low time between turns ☆ Comfortable complexity ☆ Re-playability ★☆☆ Enjoyment
