The Lord of the Rings: Duel for Middle-Earth – Allies

Players align with either the Fellowship or Sauron and vie for control of Middle-earth through a series of chapters. Collect power tokens each chapter to recruit ally characters from Tolkien’s setting and trigger their abilities. Players spend tokens to deploy allies, gain tactical advantages, and influence the board state as the conflict unfolds. The game focuses on resource management and timing as players sequence calls to allies and respond to opponent moves across multiple turns.

Do I use all seven Ally cards, or only some of them?

Shuffle the seven Ally cards for your faction and draw three at random without showing them to your opponent; set the rest aside for the game. (Rulebook, p. 2)

When do we place the Power tokens for a chapter?

At the start of each chapter, place two Power tokens as shown in that chapter’s setup diagram. (Rulebook, pp. 2, 6)

When I reveal a card with a Power token on it, do I take the token before or after flipping the card?

Take the Power token and place it in front of you first, then flip over the card. (Rulebook, p. 3)

Can I call upon an Ally after I’ve already revealed a card, and does it use up my turn?

You can call upon an Ally at any time during your turn, including after revealing cards. It’s in addition to your normal turn, but you may do it only once per turn. (Rulebook, p. 3)

How do I play an Ally’s enter effect?

Discard one of your Power tokens, reveal one of your Ally cards, and place it in front of you; then apply its enter effect. You must apply the enter effect before you can use that Ally’s exit effect. (Rulebook, pp. 3–4)

Can I use an Ally’s exit effect more than once, and what does it cost?

Discard two Power tokens to apply the exit effect of an Ally already in front of you, then set that card aside; it cannot be used again during the game. (Rulebook, p. 4)
