Wyrmspan

Play as an amateur dracologist excavating a hidden labyrinth and turning it into a sanctuary for dragons of many shapes, sizes, and colors. Players start with three excavated cavern spaces across different biomes and expand their sanctuary by digging new spaces, attracting dragons to roost, and arranging them to trigger chainable abilities. Gameplay centers on tableau-building, resource management, and engine development as players combine dragon powers and pursue goals awarded by the Dragon Guild. Scoring comes from the dragons housed, completed excavation patterns, and guild objectives over several rounds.

Can I play a dragon directly onto an empty space, or do I have to excavate it first?

You must play a dragon into an excavated space. The three leftmost spaces start excavated; to open another space, excavate it from left to right first (pp. 4–6).

If I pass, can I take another turn later in the round?

No. Once you pass, you take no more turns that round, though you can still gain benefits during other players’ turns. Any coins, resources, cards, and eggs you carry over remain yours (p. 4).

When I explore a cave, do I activate dragons from right to left, and how far do I go?

Move left to right and resolve eligible “if activated” abilities as you pass them. Your turn ends when you step onto a space without a dragon; exploring a cave again in the same round costs more eggs (p. 10).

Does a dragon’s “if activated” ability trigger as soon as I play it?

No. Playing a dragon triggers its “when played” benefit, if any; an “if activated” ability can be used when your adventurer walks onto that dragon, but not on the turn you play it (pp. 6–7).

Do I have to use all my coins before passing, and what happens to them between rounds?

You can carry coins over, but you generally want to spend them: you gain 6 coins at the start of each round, and each turn you must discard down to 9 coins (pp. 4, 14).

Do ties for a round objective mean nobody gets the first-place points?

No. Ties are friendly: everyone tied for first places a marker in the first-place space, and each gets the points for that position at game end; the next player takes second place (pp. 14–15).
