Players operate railroads in southern New England, covering Massachusetts south to New York City, mirroring the historical New York, New Haven & Hartford and Boston & Maine networks. The game is a partial-capitalization 18xx design with no auctions in the base game: initial companies are chosen by draft and corporations are capitalized at set par prices. Share purchases and capitalization follow those par values rather than current market prices, changing the usual dynamics where wealthy companies automatically gain more capital. Gameplay focuses on route building, company management, and stock-market strategy within that capitalization framework.
