The Dark Summer: Normandy 1944

A World War II operational simulation of the Normandy campaign from the D-Day landings through the closing of the Falaise gap (June 6–August 21, 1944). Players activate units using a chit-pull system that determines the order and type of actions each turn, with Weather chits affecting air support, Channel shipments, and the number of German Reaction markers. The map covers the Normandy theatre from Cherbourg to Alençon and Avranches; units represent regiments/brigades and German kampfgruppen. Rules cover D-Day landings, untried German strongpoints and Ost battalions, tactical air and naval support, artillery and nebelwerfer effects, reinforcement delays, and unit exits for victory conditions. The unknown activation sequence supports solitaire play while retaining face-to-face tension.
