Troyes

Players recreate centuries of a medieval Champagne city by managing a personal pool of dice and a hand of cards that represent religious, military, and civil affairs. Dice are allocated to projects such as cathedral construction, disaster response, and civic tasks; cards enable actions, recruitments, and scoring opportunities across the three social domains. Players may spend money to hire opponents’ dice for temporary use and compete for influence, prestige, and victory points. Includes player-driven timing through dice placement and card play; later editions add a solo mode and bonus cards.

#50 Nice dice mechanism. But it's always better if you roll high? So it's a little bit luck dependent? If you always roll low you won't win for sure. Have to try with expansion. Otázky k pravidlům

Odpovědi z pravidel od asistenta pravidel Ludoya.

Can I combine dice of different colors for an action?

Usually, no: an action uses 1–3 dice of the same color. The rulebook lists specific exceptions on Activity cards, and each die bought from another player costs 2, 4, or 6 deniers depending on whether the action uses 1, 2, or 3 dice (p. 5).

Do I have to pay salaries even if I can’t afford them?

Yes. You pay 1 denier per citizen in the Bishopric and 2 per citizen in the Palace; if you cannot pay the full amount, pay what you can and lose 2 VP. City Hall citizens have no salary (p. 4).

If I pass, can I take an action later in the round?

No. Passing ends your actions for the rest of the round; you take 2 deniers when you pass, then gain 1 more each time your turn comes around (p. 7).

When I fight a black die, do red dice count double?

Yes. Red dice count double when countering black dice, and you may combine dice of different colors; you gain 1 Influence for each black die you counter. If you cannot beat the die, discard it without losing a die, but lose 2 VP (p. 4).

Do I need to hire a tradesman every time I use an Activity card?

No. You need a tradesman on the card to activate it, but you hire and pay for one only if you do not already have one there; if you hire one, you must activate the card at least once that action. Activation uses the group’s total value divided by the card’s activation cost, rounded down (pp. 5–6).

Can I use more than one die to place a citizen in a principal building?

No. This action always uses exactly 1 die: red for the Palace, white for the Bishopric, or yellow for City Hall, with the die’s value determining the placement (p. 7).
