Amazons

1992 · Abstract Strategy

Amazons

Players control four amazons each on a square grid and compete to claim territory by moving and shooting. Amazons move like chess queens (any number of squares orthogonally or diagonally) but do not capture; after moving, the player fires an arrow from the amazon’s new square, also moving like a queen and leaving a permanent blocked square where it lands. Blocked squares and other amazons cannot be crossed, so the board fills with impassable obstacles over time. Play alternates until a player cannot complete the required move-and-shoot sequence; that player loses.
