Blue Max

1983 · World War I

Blue Max

Players each pilot a World War I aircraft in tactical dogfights, moving via a maneuver sheet that lists allowed turns, climbs and special actions. Some maneuvers require ace pilots while others are restricted to prevent stalling, and altitude and fuel are tracked as resources that affect survival. Combat resolves by tailing opponents to force disclosure of their chosen heading, then making firing checks that consult damage tables and draw colored chits to determine hits to wings, tail, engine or pilot. Games can run as standalone battles or linked into a campaign where surviving pilots improve and new aircraft become available, supporting large multi‑player air combats.
