Castle Itter: The Strangest Battle of WWII
Players reenact the defense of an Austrian castle on 5 May 1945, commanding the mixed force that held out against an SS assault. Forces include U.S. soldiers, Wehrmacht infantry, an Austrian resistance fighter, an SS officer, and freed French prisoners; the objective is to survive until the SS deck is exhausted while preventing SS Counters from reaching the castle. Play proceeds in turns with a Defender Phase (five actions selected among attack, suppress, move, special actions, or recover, each used once per unit per turn) followed by an SS Phase (three SS cards drawn and resolved). Score is based on surviving Defenders and remaining SS Counters, and the game ends when the SS deck runs out or a specific event card appears.
