El Capitán

Players act as shipping magnates building warehouse networks across a map of cities. Through card-driven movement and payouts, they invest money, place warehouses, and expand presence in cities to collect income during paydays. The game adjusts city groupings, payout tables, distribution cards, fort rules, loan and start-player mechanics, and allows larger warehouse stacks with limits per series. Special rules modify play for two- and three-player games, and an included expansion adds extra city boards and strategic options.

This is a K&K game where you have little ships, and you buy and play movement cards to get you around the board into each of these nine towns. In the towns there are these numbered rows where you build houses. At the end of each of the three rounds, dollars are rewarded to players with the most and second most houses in each spot in an amount depending on how many houses are in the town. There are also bonuses for being at least some in each town. It played quickly, and there are some cute intricacies that at times let you unseat other player's houses. Ultimately we enjoyed the game, but the mechanic for sailing around the board didn't seem very well thought out, and for a good portion of the game it didn't seem to matter much where we chose to go and build. In terms of mechanics, it felt a little like the one part of Endeavor where you put your disks in line for the majority scoring of each area, which isn't bad, but I'd rather play Endeavor. :nostar: Art and components :nostar: Innovative mechanics :star: Handles 5 or more players :nostar: Good with min or max players :star: Low time between turns :star: Comfortable complexity :star: Re-playability :star::nostar::nostar: Enjoyment
