Fields of Arle

Set in rural East Frisia across four and a half years, players manage a small farmstead through changing seasons. They build dikes, drain bogs, clear and expand fields, plant and harvest flax, raise and care for livestock, and develop forests and buildings. Each half-year players choose actions from available worker spaces to upgrade tools, train cattle, acquire vehicles, and perform seasonal tasks like shearing, milking, unloading wagons, feeding family and animals, and harvesting. Goods can be transported to buyers to gain travel experience and endgame points. The game focuses on long-term planning, resource management, and adapting strategies to seasonal opportunities.

No desire to play it. I just don't like Uwe Rosenberg games. This sounds like Anno light and some games are not meant to be board games. And multiplayer solitaire...

Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

Do I have to empty my vehicles during the Inventory at the end of each half‑year, or can I leave goods on them?

You must empty your Vehicles during Inventory: Timber, Bricks and Clothing on Vehicles are placed into your personal supply, and Travel Destination tiles are moved to your Travel Experience track (they remain on the Vehicle until that Inventory) (see page 8); note that goods placed on Vehicles are not accessible until Vehicles are emptied (see page 11).

How exactly do dikes and cutting peat give me more land on my Home Board?

Move Dike tiles upward with +1 Dike / Dike‑building actions; whenever you complete a horizontal line of three adjacent Dike tiles you immediately gain 3 new Land Spaces, and some later dike moves prevent VP loss (see pages 6 and 9). Cutting peat: dehydrate a Moor (place 4 Peat tokens), remove Peat tokens with Cut Peat actions and when the last token is removed the Moor tile is removed and you gain the underlying Land Space(s) (see pages 6 and 9).

When can I use the Special Action or Anytime Actions — are they in addition to my normal Work Phase actions?

Follow the Half‑Year sequence: you place Workers and take Work Phase actions in turn; one worker may take the Special Action to use an opposite‑season Action Space (and that gives the Starting Player marker to the opponent) (see page 7). Anytime Actions (for example, loading Vehicles, rearranging Animals, or exchanging Peat with a Peat Boat) may be performed at any time during the Work Phase in addition to your placed actions (see page 7).

How many and what kinds of tiles can I load on Single vs Double Vehicle spaces?

Single Spaces accept Wood/Clay (which are immediately flipped to Timber/Bricks) and small Travel Destinations (Hage, Dornum, Beemoor); Double Spaces cannot take Timber/Bricks or small Travel Destinations and are reserved for larger Travel Destinations and Clothing tiles; on Large Vehicles you may combine adjacent spaces to fit bigger tiles (see pages 10–11). When you place a Travel Destination on a Vehicle you must immediately sell at least one depicted item for Food and the tile then blocks the Vehicle until the end of the Work Phase; Timber/Bricks/Clothing placed on Vehicles are only added to your supply when Vehicles are emptied at Inventory (see page 11 and page 8).

How do the Master and Laborer actions work with Tools — how many Tool indicator moves do I get and what does imitating an occupied space do?

The Master action lets you move 1 Tool indicator per Workbench you have (the extra Workbench counts immediately), paying the depicted costs for each movement, and you may not move the same Tool indicator more than once during that Master action (see page 14). The Laborer action imitates another Action Space (even if occupied by an opponent) but you resolve the imitated action according to your own belongings and tool levels, not the other player's (see page 14).
