Guildhall

2012 · Card Game

Guildhall

Players run a medieval guildhall, recruiting professionals from across Europe to form chapters and advance their trades. Each profession provides a specific ability that grows stronger as more members of that profession are gathered. Players collect color-coded sets of professions and spend complete sets to purchase victory points; those abilities temporarily deactivate when a set is cashed in. Play focuses on drafting and tableau-building as players balance building powerful profession combos against converting them to points. The first player to reach 20 victory points on their turn wins.

This a swingy, punchy, luck of the draw game that rewards the leader. The game is supposed to be very short, but has enough to it that turns drag. There's just nothing here of interest. :star: Art, Iconography and components functional :nostar: Clever or interesting mechanisms :star: Reasonably low downtime between turns with mildly AP players :nostar: Multiple plays stay interesting :nostar: Low or mitigatable luck elements :nostar::nostar::nostar::nostar::nostar: Raw enjoyment

This is a FANTASTIC take that card game. You are constantly messing up your opponents in your attempts to complete your Guilds and get victory points. It is just a constant back and forth as you try to figure out the best way to make use of powers, inevitably screwing someone else over.

An interesting game that is a bit too take-that and long for what it is.
