Middle Ages

Players lead competing fiefdoms and develop land tiles to build wealth and influence over 16 rounds. Tiles represent fields, farms, villages, forts, markets, barracks, churches, and palaces, each with its own scoring rules and interactions with other tile types. Players draft, place, reserve, or attack tiles on a changing shared board, creating tactical combinations to boost income and trigger scoring effects. Planning and adaptation matter as the available tiles shift each turn; the player with the most wealth at the end of the game wins.

Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

When do I apply Special Effects and collect Income — immediately when I place a Plot tile or at the end of the turn?

Special Effects are applied and then Income is collected as part of the turn sequence after placing tiles; follow the order shown in the turn sequence and examples (see page 3 and the examples on pages 6–7).

Can I discard a Plot tile instead of placing it on my turn?

Yes — discarding a tile is a legal part of play and is demonstrated in the step-by-step example of a first turn; follow the discard step in the turn sequence (see page 6 and the turn sequence on page 3).

How and when do I refill the Plot tile display?

Refilling the Plot tile display happens during the turn sequence after tiles are taken — replace tiles immediately according to the refill rules described in the turn sequence (see page 3).

What are the rules for the Cemetery — what goes there and how does it affect play?

The Cemetery holds discarded or removed estate tiles and is governed by the Cemetery rules; consult the estate descriptions and cemetery rules for how tiles are sent there and any effects (see page 5 and related Event rules on page 8).

When does the game end and how is final scoring handled (including penalties)?

End-of-game scoring and penalties are applied according to the final scoring section; use the end-of-game scoring rules and the penalty reminder in the estate descriptions when tallying final points (see page 7 for scoring and page 4 for penalties).
