Imperium: The Contention

Lead one of six galactic civilizations competing to control the Imperium. Players manage a deck of cards representing ships, leaders, politicians, and mercenaries to expand their empire, deploy fleets, move ships, and resolve battles. Victory is achieved by gaining 8 favor or claiming 8 worlds; favor is earned through military conquest, political actions, and other card effects. Play includes preconstructed faction decks or custom decks built from a large card pool, tactical fleet movement, world sieges, and attempts to seize the Imperial Capital to exert influence over the galaxy.

I found the faction asymmetry to be fantastic and fun, but the gameplay leaves a lot to be desired. I cant say it works as a 2-player as it's way too short unless both players have the right cards and enough production to be very aggressive. This leads to who runs out of good cards the earliest. At 4 players it lasts a little bit too long for being a "very short" and extremely light 4X game. At 4 players, I'll rather play Kemet or Cthulhu Wars as all of these games are about fighting.
