2023 · Card Game
Sail
Players crew a pirate ship and cooperate to guide it through hazardous waters while avoiding the Kraken. Each round begins with a secret card exchange, then players play a series of trick-taking rounds. Trick outcomes trigger different actions based on which player wins and on each character’s unique abilities. Communication about cards and tactics is forbidden from deal to resolution, so players must infer intent from plays alone. The team wins if the ship reaches the final token before the Kraken reaches the Death tile or the Kraken deck runs out.

Rules questions
Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.
Do I have to follow suit when someone leads a card?
Yes — when a suit is led you must follow that suit if you can, and tricks are won by the highest number in the led suit (see page 2).
How does the deal & exchange at the start of a round work — can we swap cards?
The round setup includes a specific deal-and-exchange step that you must perform before playing tricks; follow the deal & exchange procedure described in the rules (see pages 1–2).
If I play two cards that show the same symbol, do both symbol effects happen?
Yes — playing a symbol pair activates the symbol-pair effects described in the rules; apply the pair’s listed effect when that pair is played (see page 3).
What does the Kraken do and what happens if the deck runs out?
Kraken attacks cause damage according to the Kraken rules and the game includes special deck-handling rules for these events; follow the Kraken damage and deck rules as written (see page 3).
How do cannon actions/icons work — do they automatically damage hazards or need a specific trigger?
Cannon actions and their icon effects resolve according to the cannon action rules and icon explanations; apply the cannon effect exactly as the cannon action text and icons instruct (see page 4).
What causes us to lose the game — how do islands, kraken, and going off‑board affect that?
Sailing hazards such as islands, the Kraken, and going off-board inflict damage or trigger loss conditions outlined under sailing hazards and win/lose conditions; follow those hazard rules to determine damage and losing states (see page 4).
