Legends of Andor

Players cooperate as a band of heroes defending a besieged fantasy realm from advancing enemies. Over a series of linked scenarios, the group completes quests, meets objectives, and responds to threats that march toward the castle according to a scripted story track. A legend deck and a moving marker drive an evolving narrative: new events, rules changes, and enemy deployments occur as the plot progresses. Players balance exploration, combat, and resource management while coordinating actions to steer the realm’s fate through each scenario and a final, player-shaped conclusion.

The game started off enjoyable, but after a few rounds, it became repetitive. At some point, it felt more like calculating moves to win rather than actually playing. The battle system works fine when your strength is balanced. But once you get too strong, fights become trivial and lose any real challenge. Strength determines everything, which takes away the tension from combat. One positive is the element of surprise, with new missions keeping things somewhat fresh. However, the story’s ending felt underwhelming—there was potential for much more. After the third round of the first five, I didn’t really feel the need to finish the game. I only kept playing because the others wanted to keep going.

Simplemente ¡WOW! Sin ninguna duda #LasLeyendasDeAndor ha sido el gran descubrimiento de este último año, a pesar de ser un juego de 2012 y ganador al premio Juego del Año de ese mismo año, por su aparente complejidad el juego me echaba para atrás, pero le dimos una oportunidad y nos ha enamorado. Sin querer desvelar mucho sobre las leyendas, lo que más me fascina es que todas son diferentes y en cada una aparece un nuevo elemento que hace que el juego no deje de sorprender. Estamos deseando poder hacernos con una copia de la única expansión que existe en español, aunque está completamente agotada, y ya tenemos preparado el capítulo 2 para continuar las aventuras.

Can I use items, trade, or pick up/drop things when it's not my turn?

Yes — many actions are free actions and cost no hours, so you may perform them anytime (even when it isn’t your turn) as long as your time marker is not in the sunrise box (examples: use articles, trade/give items or gold, pick up or deposit items) (page 4).

If I walk through a space with a fog token, does it trigger or only if I stop there?

Passing through a space with a fog token does nothing; the token is only uncovered and activated if you end your move on that space (page 3; see fog tokens on page 7).

If several heroes fight a creature together, who gets the reward?

Only the heroes who are participating in the final battle round divide the reward; all participants advance their time markers 1 hour when joining, and rewards are split among those remaining at the battle’s end (page 4).

When does the Narrator advance and when are Legend cards triggered?

The Narrator always advances one space at sunrise and also advances immediately whenever a creature is defeated; if the Narrator reaches a letter space with a star, the corresponding Legend card must be read aloud and followed (pages 5 and 3).

How do overtime hours work and do they cost willpower?

Each hero may take up to 3 overtime hours per day, but each overtime hour costs 2 willpower points and overtime must never reduce a hero’s willpower to 0 (overview and overtime rules, pages 2 and 5).

What happens when a creature reaches the castle — can I attack it on the golden shield?

When a creature enters the castle it is placed on a golden shield next to the castle and cannot be attacked there; if there are no unoccupied golden shields when a creature enters the castle, the Legend is prematurely lost (pages 7 and 2).
