Marvel United

Players take the roles of iconic Marvel heroes cooperating to stop a powerful villain controlled by the game. Each villain builds a Storyline by revealing cards that place threats, spawn henchmen, and advance a unique master plan; heroes draw and play cards from personal decks to move around locations, rescue civilians, clear threats, defeat thugs, and use signature powers. Cards offer a mix of actions and superpowers that combine with teammates’ plays, encouraging coordinated strategies to complete missions that unlock the ability to attack the villain directly. The game resolves when the villain’s health is reduced to zero or the villain completes its scheme, determining the team’s success or failure.

Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

If I play a Hero card, do I get the actions on the previous Hero card too?

Yes — you may use the bottom action symbols on the Hero card you just played AND the bottom symbols of the previous Hero card in the Storyline (even if a Master Plan card is between them); special effects above those cards are not shared. (pages 7–8)

When does the game add a new Master Plan card to the Storyline?

The Villain adds 1 Master Plan card at the start and normally after every 3 Hero cards; once the first Mission is completed the Villain is "Under Pressure" and Master Plan cards are added after every 2 Hero cards. (pages 5, 9, 12)

Can we attack the Villain right away?

No — Heroes can only damage the Villain after they have completed at least two of the three Missions; until then you can damage Thugs and Henchmen but not the Villain. (pages 8, 10)

What happens when a Hero takes damage — how does KO work?

For each damage you discard a card from your hand to the bottom of your deck; if you discard your last card you are KO’d (lay your figure down), immediately resolve the Villain's BAM! effect, and on your next turn stand up and draw up to 4 cards. (page 10)

How do you clear Threat cards and where do defeated Thugs/Civilians go for Missions?

Henchmen-type Threats lose Health tokens from attacks until removed; other Threats are cleared by placing the required Heroic Action tokens (usually 3); when a Thug is defeated or a Civilian rescued, place that token on the appropriate Mission card if there is an empty slot (otherwise discard it to the pool). (pages 8–9)

What is Overflow and when does it trigger?

When the Villain adds Thugs/Civilians clockwise to Locations and a Location has no empty slots left, the Villain Dashboard’s Overflow effect is triggered (follow that dashboard text to see what happens). (page 6)
