MLEM: Space Agency

Players command rival feline space agencies in a light family game set in 2075, sending cat astronauts on missions across the solar system. On each turn players launch rockets, choose mission targets, and resolve dice-driven outcomes that can succeed, fail, or explode; missions earn points for occupying planets and moons and for gathering cosmic resources. The game balances risk and reward as players decide when to press luck or abort a flight, while special abilities and event cards add thematic chaos and tactical variety.

Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

How many dice do we roll and how do I form groups for movement?

The commander rolls all available dice (6 in the first travel) and groups them by rolled results; only dice matching the symbols next to the rocket marker can be used, and in Stage 2 the commander chooses one or more groups (if they choose a multi‑die group they must use all dice in it) — the rocket moves by the sum of the chosen dice (p.7).

Can I discard dice after grouping, and what's the afterburner rule?

After moving the commander discards the used dice to the cosmic mat and those dice can’t be used again this expedition, but dice showing the afterburner symbol are never discarded and remain available next travel phase; if the commander would end with zero dice they take one from the cosmic mat (p.8).

What happens when the rocket crashes — how does the Cosmic Failure track work?

If none of the rolled results match the symbols at the rocket’s location the rocket crashes and you advance the cosmic failure token one space; all astronauts on the rocket return to players’ boards (except parachute astronauts who may still disembark) and the expedition ends (p.8).

How do landing and disembarking work — can I leave astronauts in deep space?

During the landing phase the commander then other players choose to stay or disembark: moons take the unoccupied moon with highest points (one astronaut per moon) and grant points immediately, planets accept any number of astronauts and score at game end, and if the rocket reaches deep space all astronauts must leave (commander to the comet for 7 points, others to the galaxy for 5 points) (pp.9–10).

How is end‑game scoring done for planets and goals?

At game end score each planet: the player with the most astronauts gets first‑place points, the second most gets second‑place, and all other players with at least one get the other points; ties are broken by who disembarked there first; goal tokens are claimed during landing and are worth 5 points each at game end (pp.11, 10).

When and how can I use astronaut abilities — are they once per game?

Astronaut abilities take effect when that astronaut is in the rocket or when they disembark as described (examples: parachute lets them disembark on a crash, double‑score on moons/planets/deep space, discard‑die triggers a discard when they leave); the die‑as‑value‑1 ability can be used only once per expedition (flip the token after use) and some abilities have special timing notes—see the abilities list (p.12).
