Nemesis: Retaliation

Players take the roles of highly trained marines sent into an alien nest with strict orders and advanced equipment. Gameplay combines survival against overwhelming hordes, resource and item management, and hidden individual objectives that can create betrayal among the team. New mechanics include a reworked health system, expanded character actions, a modular map with special exploration cards, and an item-management track. Sessions emphasize tactical movement, combat and decision-making under pressure as players balance cooperation and personal goals while contending with evolving threats.

Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

Do closed doors block my movement or can I just move through them?

Closed Doors block Movement (and Bursting) — you must Open or Destroy a Closed Door before moving through it; Intruders destroy Closed Doors when they attempt to move through them (p22).

When I move into an unexplored room, do I move first or resolve the entrance/noise effects — can intruders appear and attack me immediately?

Resolve the Exploration Sequence: place the Room and Corridors, then move your Character into the new Room, and then resolve the Entrance Effect (usually a Noise roll); Intruders placed or moved into a Room make a Surprise Attack immediately (pp24–27, p25).

What happens when my Oxygen reaches 0 — do I die right away?

When your Oxygen dial reaches 0 you gain a Suffocating token and keep the dial at 0; the token’s instructions give you effectively one more Turn to find Oxygen before you die (p17).

How many Action cards can I have in hand — is there a hand limit and what happens when I Pass?

During Cleanup you draw until you have 5 Action cards in hand; there is no separate universal hand cap beyond this draw rule, and when you Pass you may discard any number of cards from your hand (pp15, p13).

If I get Contamination cards, how and when do they infect me or hatch a larva that kills me?

Use the Infection Procedure (usually at End of the Game or when specified) to scan Contamination cards in hand for the word "INFECTED" and place a Larva if found; the Eclosion Procedure (typically End of Game) has you draw 4 cards and if any Contamination is in hand the Larva hatches and the Character dies (pp36, p38).
