The Lord of the Rings: Fate of the Fellowship

Players take the roles of members of the Fellowship and their allies, each controlling two characters with distinct abilities. Together they travel across Middle-earth, protect the Ring-bearer, fight enemies at key locations, and evade the Nazgûl and Sauron’s searching Eye. The game is cooperative and scenario-driven, with multiple objectives, event cards, and a rotating cast of playable characters that change each playthrough. Victory occurs if the group destroys the One Ring before the Ring-bearer succumbs to despair. A solo mode is included.

A little too basic for me. Gave me a somewhat Arkham Horror 2e vibe, but a bit dryer which made it a bit boring. It's by far the best Pandemic game IMO, but it's still Pandemc.

Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

How many actions can each of my characters take on my turn?

You may do up to 4 actions with one of your characters and up to 1 action with the other, and you must finish all actions for one character before doing any with the other; if you only have one character, do 4 actions with that character (p. 10).

Do I have to discard immediately when I go over the 7‑card hand limit?

Yes — the hand limit is 7 cards at all times; if you ever have more than 7 (after resolving any Skies Darken you drew), you must immediately discard cards or play events until you have 7 (pp. 5, 15).

How does Frodo destroy the One Ring at Mount Doom — what do we roll?

Frodo spends 5 resources to attempt the final search roll at Mount Doom, then rolls 1 search die for each Nazgûl and shadow troop present plus 1 die for each missing hope (up to a maximum of 7 dice); if at least 1 hope remains after that roll, the players win (p. 12).

How and where can I Muster troops?

At green, brown, or blue locations you may spend 1 purple token to add one troop matching that location’s color to the location (you cannot Muster in white or red locations, or if the supply is empty) (p. 13).

When a shadow card says Advance or Reinforce, do shadow troops move before battles and what happens to havens?

Advance moves each shadow troop forward along the indicated battle line and then you resolve battles from the frontmost location backward; if shadow troops occupy a haven with no friendly troops it becomes a shadow stronghold and you lose 3 hope (pp. 16–17). Reinforce adds a shadow troop to the named location (then you resolve a battle there if friendly troops are present) and then follow the card’s special order (p. 18).

What happens if the player deck runs out while drawing cards?

If the player deck runs out when you must draw, you lose 1 hope for each player card you cannot draw (p. 15).
