Orbito

2022 · Abstract Strategy

Orbito

Players aim to get four marbles of their colour in a horizontal, vertical or diagonal row on a circular, shifting board. Each turn a player places or moves a marble, then activates a central button that rotates all marbles one position along their orbits, changing the board state. Turns can also move an opponent's marble, so plans must account for both the global rotation and direct disruption. The game combines spatial pattern-building with anticipation of how every turn’s automatic shift will alter positions.

A smart, fast abstract game. PROS - It demands some very specific and different from your brain. - It is pretty fast and does not overstay its welcome at all. In fact, I've never seen just one game played in a session. - Production is pretty, pretty good! CONS - As with any abstract, if one player has better skills at it than the other one there is little to be done for the latter.
