Origin
Players begin with a single small token in central Africa and guide the expansion of human tribes across a map, placing and upgrading pieces that vary by color, height and thickness. On a turn a player either places a new piece that shares two attributes with a neighbor, moves one of their pieces a distance based on its height, or displaces an opponent’s piece by attacking with a thicker piece. Occupying spaces yields cards or technology tiles depending on the region color; tan, orange and violet spaces give cards and brown spaces give tech tiles drawn in ascending order. Orange cards require meeting tech thresholds before use. Points come from completed objectives, grassland control, strait control, tech stacks and cards in hand; the game ends when pieces, tiles, or a card color run out.

Evan4.6 Origin is a very quick playing casual game that works very much like Takenoko, but perhaps one level higher in terms of difficulty. In a turn you do one thing, spawn new guy, move a guy or swap two guys next to each other. The components are very pretty, and there's a nice little set collection thing going on for extra points. Each one of those tiles has a nice looking illustration on it next to the strength rating of the tile, and the illustration turns out to have no in-game meaning. It makes me think it did something at some point in this game's development, but they stripped the rule out and kept the art assets. Who knows?
Mitchell C5.9 Fantastic components. A fun little game that could be a brain burner if you really wanted it to be. Best played without too much thinking.
