Schnapsen

1715 · Card Game

Schnapsen

Two players play a trick-taking card game with a 20-card deck (A, 10, K, Q, J in each suit). Each deal deals five cards to each player and turns one card as trump; players replenish from the stock after each trick until the stock is closed or exhausted. Players score points by winning value cards in tricks (A=11, 10=10, K=4, Q=3, J=2) and by announcing marriages (king+queen of the same suit). The objective in a deal is to reach 66 points; the margin of victory converts that deal into 1–3 game points and games are played to a target total. Once the stock is exhausted, players must follow suit and try to win the trick or trump if unable to follow.
