Stuffed Fables

Players become a band of brave stuffed toys on a quest to protect the child they love from a scheming enemy and the dangers that lurk in childhood milestones. Play unfolds inside an integrated storybook that serves as the rulebook, scenario map, and game board; each chapter opens as a two-page adventure with choices, scenes, and special rules. On a turn, a player draws five dice from a bag and uses colors to perform actions—melee, ranged, searching, healing, special moves, or wild effects—storing or combining dice for greater impact. Encounters include minions, puzzles, tradeable characters and items, environmental hazards, and cooperative tasks, while a discovery deck and branching pages steer an overarching narrative across multiple chapters.

Juego simpático de corte infantil. Buenas historias, aunque sencillo y azaroso. Fluye bien y se hace muy inmersivo. Y es muy BONITO!! Las partidas se hacen un poco largas, para mí funcionaría mejor con menos escenas por partida.

Rules questions

Answered from the rulebook by Ludoya's rules assistant.

When do we do Check Threat, and what causes a surge or a minion turn?

Check Threat happens at the end of your turn after you discard dice; if there are minions in play and the number of dice on the threat track is equal to or greater than the number of minions, the minions take a turn. If there are no minions and the threat dice equal or exceed the number of stuffies, resolve the page’s surge (first surge goes to section 7-3; additional surges reveal a sleep card), then discard threat dice and refresh the bag. (pg. 11)

Can my stuffy move through spaces with other stuffies or minions?

You may move a stuffy through a space containing another stuffy but you may not end your move on that space; you cannot move a stuffy through a space containing a minion. Movement can be diagonal or orthogonal and crossing solid colored lines requires spending that color (or purple) dice. (pg. 9)

How do purple dice work — can they stand in for any color and get bonuses?

Purple dice may be used in place of any attribute die (e.g., for melee, ranged, movement, search or skill tests), but they do not ‘become’ that color and only receive bonuses that explicitly apply to purple dice. They also don’t benefit from bonuses that apply only to other specific colors. (pg. 11)

What does Reserving a die do and how does defending with a reserved die work?

Instead of spending a die you may reserve it on your stuffy’s card (one reserved die max); a reserved die can be spent on a future turn or used to defend by rolling it when attacked to block up to the roll result. If the reserved die blocks all incoming damage it is returned to the stuffy’s card, otherwise it is discarded. (pgs. 9, 12)

What happens when a stuffy collapses — can it still act?

When a stuffy collapses you tip its figure, discard its status cards, buttons and hearts, and reveal a sleep card; a collapsed stuffy cannot take actions, have a die stored, or use items, though it still takes its turn and may recover if it gains 1 or more stuffing (e.g., during its Find Stuffing step or via Encourage). (pgs. 13, 8)

If we defeat a minion, do we remove its threat die from the threat track?

No — when a minion is defeated its figure is removed and its card discarded, but you leave any black threat dice on the threat track; threat dice are discarded during the Check Threat resolution or after minion activations as specified. (pgs. 10, 11, 12)
