Red Sand, Blue Sky: Heroes of the Arena

Set in the arenas of the Roman Empire, the game allows players to take the roles of gladiators, lanistae, or owners of gladiator schools. Gladiators travel toward Rome, fighting other combatants and animals while seeking fame and the rudis, the wooden sword of freedom. Lanistae recruit, train, and manage a troupe, wagering on matches and selling experienced fighters as their school expands. Arena combat uses character statistics to determine dice rolled, with successes deciding the outcome. Fighters also receive bonus dice that can be allocated during the game, making timing an important tactical choice. Campaign rules follow a gladiator’s career, and the game supports solo, cooperative, and competitive play.
