Archeos Society

Players assemble teams of explorers and launch expeditions to investigate legendary archaeological sites. Each turn a player either recruits a new team member or starts an expedition by playing cards that match by color or role, and choosing an expedition leader who sets the region and grants a special ability. Expeditions can be small and fast or larger and more efficient, and unplayed cards become available for opponents to recruit when an expedition is launched. Players score discoveries and manage recruitment while tracking rivals’ progress to determine the winner.

works better with less people than Ethnos, but, I think I prefer the area control of Ethnos.

I'm a big fan of the original Ethnos, but I wasn't particularly inspired by this new edition. - I found that moving up tracks instead of area control made the board state much harder to read at a glance. - The separate variable scoring areas, while cool initially, made me feel more isolated from the other players. - The iconography and region colors on the cards weren't the easiest to immediately distinguish and the lack of language dependency comes at the cost of clarity. - The side boards and pieces are lower quality and less satisfying to interact with. But, at the end of the day, it's still Ethnos and I'm happy it's in print so people can have a chance to try it out.
