Players take the roles of one of twelve distinct specialist inventors in a bustling city of learning. Each character has unique abilities, starting bonuses, and personal goals that shape strategic choices. Gameplay focuses on designing and building devices, managing resources and actions to develop inventions, and competing for influence and victory through tableaux and city interaction. The expert powers and varied motivations create asymmetric play and replayability across sessions.
