Operation Mercury: The Invasion of Crete

This two-player operational-level wargame recreates the May 1941 airborne invasion and subsequent fighting across Crete. Players command divisions and maneuver company-sized units across multiple linked maps, resolving parachute and glider landings, air-landing reinforcements, ground assaults and withdrawals using the Grand Tactical Series 2.0 rules. Scenarios range from localized airdrop engagements to the full campaign covering Maleme, Canea, Heraklion, Rethymnon and the Askifou Plain. Mechanics include shifting Allied morale that can force evacuation, random events such as misdirected airstrikes and partisan attacks, and an optional Commonwealth naval support rule that risks ship losses to air attack. Play focuses on seizing or denying key airfields, organizing counterattacks and conducting a contested withdrawal under enemy pressure.
