Players bid on plantation tiles each round and place them on the board with an ownership marker that sets that plot’s yield. The lowest bidder becomes the canal overseer and chooses where to build a canal that round; other players may influence the decision by offering money but the overseer has final say. After canals are placed, water distribution is resolved and under-watered plantations suffer reduced production or may revert to fallow if neglected repeatedly. At game end, only cultivated plots score, with points determined by plantation type, size, and the ownership marker values.

It mixes very well auctions and abstract strategy with a low game lenght

This is a very mathy player negotiation game, where players bid for turn order, with each player getting their choice of farming tile type, but the last player in order gets to place the critical water piece that will prevent the farming tiles from dying out. Other players get to bribe that player as to where to place the water. It's a fascinating dance, and the whole game plays very quickly. The question is, is this game too mathy for me? It's all about calculating cubes times region size for each player, so you can tell how much your move will help you vs how much it will help your opponents. ★ Art, Iconography and components functional ★ Clever or interesting mechanisms ★ Reasonably low downtime between turns with mildly AP players ☆ Multiple plays stay interesting ★ Low or mitigatable luck elements ★☆☆☆☆ Raw enjoyment

The negotiation and bidding in this game is outstanding. For me it just clicks. Sure it is abstract and can be mathy. But the meta-game that is ALWAYS generated and the quick play time makes for a really enjoyable experience. One of my favourite games. TRY IT!
