Players act as home-country colonial powers, producing and collecting commodities from workshops, recruiting and promoting colonists, and building ships and public buildings. Turns begin with a die roll that either triggers a random event or awards a commodity; players then may buy from the bank, sell to colonists for gold, or spend commodity combinations to recruit, promote, or construct. Ships explore a modular ocean for hidden outposts, treasure, or trade agreements, which return to the home country and affect production, income, or costs. Victory is achieved by meeting three of five objectives (outposts, gold, trade agreements, top-rank colonists, public buildings). Play is largely parallel solitaire with limited direct interaction centered on the race for islands.
