Agricola (Revised Edition)

Players manage a small 17th-century homestead, expanding their household, improving fields and buildings, and raising animals to sustain and grow their family. Each turn players place family-member workers on a shared action board to collect resources, build improvements, sow and harvest crops, and acquire new cards that modify options. Feeding an increasing family requires careful planning of food production from crops, livestock, and other sources. The game uses wooden components and a revised card set and ruleset that streamline play while preserving the original card-driven strategy and long-term planning.

Can I use an action space if another player has already taken it this round?

No. Each action space can be used by only one person per round, so an occupied space is unavailable until the next round (Rulebook, p. 6).

Do I need to build a room before I can grow my family?

For “Family Growth with Room Only,” yes: you must have more rooms than people. The later “Family Growth Even without Room” action lets you grow without building a room first (Rulebook, p. 7).

Can I keep animals in my supply if I don’t have room for them on my farm?

No. Animals must be accommodated in pastures, stables, or your house as a pet; otherwise, they wander off. A pasture holds one animal type, up to two per space, and a stable in a pasture doubles its capacity (Rulebook, p. 8).

When I sow, do I have to plant every empty field, and how many crops go on each?

You may leave fields empty. Each grain you sow becomes 3 grain in the field, and each vegetable becomes 2 vegetables; you can sow any number of empty fields in one “Sow” action (Rulebook, p. 9).

Do I have to harvest from every field, and how much do I take?

Yes. In each harvest, take exactly 1 crop from every field, even if you would rather leave it there (Rulebook, p. 9).

How much food do my family members need at harvest, and can newborns eat less?

Each person already in play needs 2 food, but a person who grew your family that round needs only 1. If you cannot pay the full amount, take one begging marker for each missing food; each costs 3 points at the end (Rulebook, p. 9).
