Epochs: Course of Cultures

Players guide a civilization across three epochs—Ancient, Medieval, and Modern—making long-term decisions that shape expansion, technology, and culture. On each turn they draw invention cards, allocate actions to grow cities, build wonders, manage trade and military, and develop strategies in an evolving map. Choices favor cultural development, innovation, or conquest, and effects persist across epochs. After the final epoch, players tally prestige from achievements, territorial control, and development to determine whose legacy scores highest.

This game has blown my mind. It has everything I ever wanted in a civilization game: the map presence of Clash of Cultures, the feeling of advancing towards the future of Through the Ages and the spread of influence and fight for natural resources of Civilization. The civ assimetry is interesting; the military conflicts and arms race is interesting; the fight for culture hegemony is interesting; the cold war is interesting; inventions are interesting... The only two flaws that prevent this game from being a 10/10 are that I would have liked more gameplay use of sea spaces (maybe a future expansion?) and, aesthetically, barbarians and map influence could have been some other thing instead of merely cubes. Evergreen in my collection from now on. Looking forward to playing it many more times.
