Railroad Ink: Deep Blue Edition

Players draw road and rail routes on individual erasable boards to link exits around a watery landscape. Each round dice rolled for the table determine which track and road segments are available, and players must add those segments to their boards to connect exits while avoiding incomplete routes. Scoring rewards connected exits and penalizes open ends. This edition adds River and Lakes expansions: River introduces flowing routes that change planning, and Lakes allow ferry connections between networks. Plays 1–6 players (more with additional boxes).

I enjoy this one because it is so portable. I keep the dice in my bag and a copy of the board, then can take it out easily for a quick game.

Does each Route I draw have to touch an Exit or another Route, or can I place it disconnected (even corner-to-corner)?

Each Route you draw must share at least one side with an Exit or a preexisting Route; corner-only touches are invalid — if you can’t connect a Route, you can’t draw it. (p.5)

Can I rotate or flip the route pattern shown on a die before I draw it?

Yes — you may freely rotate and/or reverse (flip) the pattern shown on the die before drawing it on your board. (p.5)

Can I draw a highway directly into a railway, or do I need something special to link them?

You may not draw Routes that directly connect Railways to Highways; you must use a Station (or an appropriate Special Route) to link the two. (pp.4–5,8)

If a highway and railway cross using an Overpass, are they connected into the same network?

No — an Overpass lets a highway and railway cross without creating a connection between those two Networks; only Stations create a connection. (pp.4,8)

How many Special Routes can I use per round and over the whole game?

You may use one Special Route per round (in addition to the dice), each Special Route only once per game, and you may use up to three Special Routes total during the game. (p.6)

What counts as an Error at the end of the game and how much do they cost?

Each Route end that does not connect to another Route or the outer edge of the board is an Error (marked ⊗) and costs you 1 point per Error. (p.7)
