Root: The Marauder Expansion

Two new factions enter the Woodland: an iron-clad order of exiled knights seeking relics and a ruthless lord who enforces control and razes opposition. Players command one of these factions, pursue faction-specific objectives, and interact with existing powers through conflict, area control, and resource management. The expansion also adds four hireling pairings—small, flexible factions that slot into games at any player count and create new tactical combinations. A draft setup option supports both casual and competitive play, changing initial placement and strategic choices for a more varied experience.

Possibly the most complex expansion, with the most complex faction in the game, the keepers in iron. Very difficult, but also very rewarding when you play them right, also this expansion adds the advanced setup. This is a must have in my opinion.

Въпроси за правилата

Отговори от книжката с правила от помощника за правила на Ludoya.

How do hirelings change control—what happens when control markers are removed and who rolls for control?

At the end of your turn you remove one control marker from each hireling you control (except ones you just took); when you remove the last marker you must immediately give the hireling card and marker to another player, and that player immediately rolls the control die to place new control markers (counting gold pips if they’re tied for or have the most points) (pages 13–14).

If I choose Looters in battle and we both get wiped out, do I still take an item from their Crafted Items box?

No — Looters lets you take an item only if you rule the clearing at the end of the battle; if the battle removes all pieces so you don’t rule the clearing, you cannot take the crafted item (page 6).

When I Delve, how is a relic’s value determined and what happens if I don’t rule enough adjacent clearings?

Relics start face‑down and are flipped when delved to reveal their value (each type has tokens 1,2,3,3); after delving you count how many clearings you rule adjacent to that forest, and if you rule fewer than the relic’s value you must discard the Retinue card you used to delve (but you still keep the relic) (page 9).

When I Recover relics, when do I have to discard my Retinue card and how many points do I score?

You may only recover a relic if the clearing has a matching waystation; place the relic on your faction board, and if you rule fewer suit‑matching clearings than the relic’s value you discard the Retinue card you used and end the action; you score points equal to the relic’s value and +2 more if it fills a Relics column (page 10).

For the Hundreds, what happens when I Advance the Warlord—do I have to move and battle each time?

You may advance your warlord up to your Prowess value; each time you advance you may move (the move must include your warlord) and then you may battle in your warlord’s clearing, but neither the move nor the battle is required (page 5).
