Command one side of the American Civil War at the strategic level, directing armies, promoting or relieving generals, conducting amphibious assaults and cavalry raids, and managing political pressures within the government. Play uses a card-driven system to represent campaigns, events, and personalities; operations unfold on a point-to-point map with turns representing roughly four months. Players build and deploy naval assets and technologies, pursue diplomatic and economic options, and resolve battles using a streamlined combat table. Scenarios cover the entire war from the firing on Fort Sumter to Appomattox, with unit counters, a large mounted map, and a deck of strategy cards driving play.
